Registered County Association of the NSRA

1940 to 1949

9th March 1940 Special Meeting called at the Ardeer Recreation House in lieu of postponed September 1939 meeting. At this meeting it was agreed that the Association activities be suspended until next September. The Secretary was instructed to ascertain the Association's laibilities in respect of the outdoor range and to see the bank to deposit the trophies and transferring the monies into trustees hands. It was agreed that the Secretary should return the trophies held from the Scottish Counties shoot to Mr McKenzie of Stirling.

6th September 1945 meeting at Ardeer Recreation Club to make arrangements for the revival of the Ayr County Miniature Rifle Association. The last president and trustees advised that this meeting did not have the status of a General Meeting due to lack of notice. However the meeting was considered to have sufficient status to initiate a restart of activities. A working party was elected to initiate a league competition and to seek out and regain the County's trophies.

4th May 1946 AGM at Ardeer Recreation Club permited a full committee to be elected and the Association re-started with a balance sheet of £28 10s 3p.The Burton Cup had been retrieved from its sponsors and was presented to Mr D. Fullarton of Ardeer. The meeting learnt that the military had taken everything from the outdoor range and was given the opinion that there was a poor chance of recovering anything. A new outdoor range would need to be found. At this time the Alexander Trophy and the BSA Cup were still being sought.

24th May1947 AGM at Ardeer Recreation Club received the resignation of Mr Third due to departure abroad and elected Mr J. R. McColl of Largs as president. New Vice-Presidents were sought. The Sheriff Martin Lang Shield was re-assigned to the winner of the third division. Competitions were arranged for the BSA and County Cup competitions with the teams to be formatted by the Secretary.

22nd May 1948 AGM at Ardeer Recreation Club considered and ruled that competitions for telescopic sights would be withheld until the cost of the sights was such as to make them generally available. The Secretary reported that the County Open at Kilmaurs was sparsely attended so no teams for the BSA and County Cup could be selected. That was done later and the County team came 34th in the BSA Cup and 25th in the County Cup. This meeting initiated preparations to hold the Scottish Open at Largs and found that the County needed to find the prize money for the competitions. Mr W. Ramsay gave a personal contribution for a prize for competitors under 19 years of age.

14th May 1949 AGM at Ardeer Recreation Club opened with compliments to all on the success of the Scottish Open at Largs with particular compliments to the Largs Club. There was however the feeling that the representation from the County had been poor. It was proposed that the Ayrshire Meeting should be held in conjunction with the West of Scotland Meeting at Irvine. It was agreed that the County would move from 5 bull to 10 bull targets for the following season.
